Natural Light and Panoramic Views
One of the biggest advantages of large picture windows is the amount of natural light they invite into a room.
large fixed window (does not open) acts like a frame for the view outside. Daylight floods in, making the
interior feel bright and airy from morning until evening.
They’re often used in homes, lofts, and commercial buildings.

Large Glass Windows for Homes and Commercial Spaces
Commercial Buildings
In offices and workplaces, floor-to-ceiling panels transform enclosed spaces into bright, inspiring environments that boost employee satisfaction and productivity while reducing reliance on artificial lighting.
For commercial properties, expansive glass façades and storefronts are powerful tools to attract customers, showcase products, and create a welcoming atmosphere. Restaurants, hotels, and showrooms benefit from the open feel and stunning views that large windows provide, giving guests and visitors a memorable experience.

Domestic Windows
Big windows for homes are a defining feature of the modern, open plan look. Architects often use oversized windows or even glass walls to blur the line between indoor and outdoor living spaces. Your rooms feel connected to the patio, deck or garden beyond.
Big house windows also contribute to a clean, minimalist aesthetic. They let in ample light that highlights interior decor and architectural features, and their large glass surfaces and narrow frame profiles give a sleek, uncluttered appearance. This modern style of glazing can dramatically enhance your home’s kerb appeal.

Futura+ Fixed Light
Futura+ is built for projects that need a clean, modern look. It uses slim 53 mm aluminium on the outside and timber on the inside.
The frame includes idealcore™, which helps improve insulation and avoid cold spots. Like the others, it opens from the top using friction slides and locks with one handle.
You can also use the night vent setting. The double glazed version reaches a U-value of 1.31. Triple glazing improves it to 0.74. Futura+ works best in modern designs that also need strong thermal performance.
Frame/ Nation IC Fixed Light Window
Nation IC looks more traditional, especially from the outside. The aluminium profile is shaped to look like old style putty glazing. Inside, it’s the same FSC-certified timber as the others.
It also uses idealcore™ to help with insulation. This window opens from the top with friction slides and uses a multi lock handle with a night vent position.
U values are 1.32 for double glazing and 0.77 for triple. You also get built in security with strong keeps and bolts. If you’re working on a period style building but want modern performance, this is ideal.

FAQS
Large windows can be just as energy efficient as smaller windows if they are made with modern insulated glass and quality frames. A decades old single glazed picture window would lose a lot of heat, but a contemporary double glazed or triple glazed large window will have low U values that keep heat loss to a minimum. Our Idealcombi Futura+ windows can achieve around 0.59 W/m²K in large configurations, which is better insulation than what building regulations require for new houses. Also, during the day large windows can contribute solar gain (sunlight warming the room), which can be a passive heating benefit in winter.
Yes, modern large windows are built with safety and security in mind. Firstly, safety glazing is mandatory for big windows, especially those that are near floor level or in doors. This means your large window will be made of either tempered safety glass or laminated glass. Tempered glass is about four times stronger than regular glass, so it can withstand impacts (like a stray football) much better without breaking.
If it ever does break, it crumbles into small, less harmful pieces. Laminated glass, on the other hand, consists of two sheets of glass with a tough interlayer; even if it cracks, it stays in place, adhered to the laminate, rather than shattering out. Both types greatly reduce the risk of injury and are often used together for maximum safety in oversized windows (e.g. a laminated inner pane and a toughened outer pane).
The thickness of the glass for a large window depends on the size of the pane and safety requirements. In standard residential windows, each glass pane is often around 4 mm thick. However, for very large windows, thicker glass is usually needed for structural strength and to meet building regulations. It’s common to use 6 mm or even 8 mm thick glass for oversized window panes. Large units will also typically be toughened (tempered) glass for safety, this type of glass is much stronger than ordinary glass and, if it does break, it crumbles into small granular pieces rather than sharp shards.
Laminated glass (two sheets of glass bonded with a safety film) is used for very big windows, this effectively doubles the thickness and provides extra strength and security.
Idealcombi offers some of the largest window solutions available, engineered to flood interiors with daylight while making a bold architectural statement. For projects requiring expansive glazing, multiple units can be seamlessly joined to form window walls or continuous screens all with consistent, slim sightlines.
